Today we had our annual birth fair. This is the 4th year Fluffy Little Tushies has had a booth. It is always so stressful leading up to it but the day of is always so much fun.

I really enjoy helping parents learn about cloth. Over the past few years I have noticed alot more first time parents wanting to learn about cloth diapers. I think that is such a great thing!!

I have to admit that over the last few months I have been debating whether or not to keep this business going. However, it is days like today that reminds me why I am doing this.

Well, the sell of our Arfe goodmama daiper did not go as expected. My website over sold the 20 diapers I had. I had to refund about 45 people last night. Very upsetting to say the least!

Yesterday afternoon I recieved my package of these awesome diapers. They are so cute in person. And I can't even say enough about how soft they are. I have 20 of them and am limiting one per order. Bows

I have been playing around with making bows and clips for my girls hair and really enjoy doing it. I was thinking about making some for the site and selling them. I just don't really know what people are really looking for. I do see alot of those big giant flowers around but I was thinking about maybe some felt flowers or just those little bowtie looking clippies. Anyone have an opinion on this subject??

Our old diapers

So I haven't looked through our old diapers for atleast 5 months. Oh man, I really miss cloth diapering my little one.

A friend come over to get some things for her little man and I was thinking of a way to reach more people. I have the website (ofcourse) and this blog and the facebook page. But it just doesn't seem to be doing that.

My point, I was thinking about hosting a cloth diaper firesale. Everyone would come over with the diapers they want to sell and others would come over with the purpose to buy used diapers. We have local consignment shops that will sell you cloth but you only get a percentage and they get a percentage. This way you get all the money.

I don't know, I just all these diapers and no one to put them on ;-)

Still stripping

I was just thinking how funny it is that we have not been in diapers for a long while now (ok not that long, maybe 4 months) and I have to do some stripping.

We use cloth napkins and I noticed that they were repelling and not quite absorbing. So it looks like I get to do a stripping. I think I will start with the hot water strip just to see if that will work before I try any other method.

Do you have a favorite method for stripping your diapers/cloth?

Serger is fixed

I finally got the needle on the serger replaced just to have it break. So I put on another and then that one broke. Can you believe I went through 3 needles before I got the darn thing right. Atleast I learned that is a certain way that thing is suppose to be on there LOL

I was able to make us some more cloth napkins. It is so strange how they just disappear (like socks). But I have not yet gone back to the go potty bags.

burnt out

So I guess when you burn the candle at both ends you are bound to get burnt out. I have been going and going that now that I have caught a cold it really has knocked me on my tush.

It is really hard to try and keep the house, care for the kids, work at night and try to make this business a success (which is not going so well).

Broken Needle

I didn't know it was going to be so hard to find the right needle for my serger. I am so upset that I can not finish my cloth potty bag project. Atleast I learned a bit about needles in the process of finding the right one. Ofcourse the one that I do need I can't find anywhere locally so I am going to have to order it. Which just means more time off of my project. Boo

Cloth potty bags are done

Here is the cloth potty bag I have been working on. This potty calls for a platic bag with a soaking pad in it to aborb the pee. I was thinking that I don't want to have to buy and throw away bags. I wanted to make something that I could use simular to a cloth diaper that my little would pee in and then I could was and reuse them. I just love the way they came out!! I am working on getting a patent on the design. This is VERY exciting!!

potty training going well

I am in total shock that my 18 month old is almost done with potty training. She was waking up from her nap dry and we would go directly to the potty. We did that for a week or two. Then she really started showing an interest so I put her in panies and never looked back. We are using panties all day (even during nap) and only wearing a diaper over night. I just can't believe that is it. She doesn't even really talk but she can say poopoo and pat her tushie and that is how I know she needs to go.

I guess it is now time to sell off all my cloth. OMG that just makes me so sad. I am selling and not storing them because I don't think we are going to have anymore kids. My husband is set on not. I can always build a new stash if we do have another. I do have to say that I am holding on to a select few that I just can't get rid of. LOL

I finally got all the boxes reorganized after having a fun time at the BIRTH fair. We had alot of new moms interested in cloth diapers so that is good thing. We even had some new dads who were very excited about using cloth.
I would love to do more shows and fairs. I really think that the best way to do this is to focus on the local parents. I can get to know them better and what they are looking for. Not to say that I don't the out of staters LOL

I am happy to say that the BIRTH Fair is now done. It is so much fun but the prep for it is stressful. I think I need to do more of these so that the packing and unpacking is easy and fast. My sister, mom, 7 yr old daughter, Aunt, and cousin were all there to help and support me. A BIG THANKS goes out to them all.

I did alot of cloth diaper demos and gave lots of information. I am hoping that I helped some new parents find cloth diapering to be easier than they thought it would have been. I have to say that I am looking forward to doing it again next year for sure.

This has been quite a stressful month. And there is only one more week left to go. Up this week is our local B.I.R.T.H. Fair on Saturday October 2nd. I have ordered what I think I needed but I still feel like there is so much to do. This year I am selling hair bows and tutus. This is the homemake items for this year. So I thought the urine build up was gone. They are were so great smelling right out of the dryer and the first night of wearing them. But the smell was back right when my hubby started his vacation. Now I am getting the whole thing from him. He doesn't want to use them and is going on strike while on vacation. He says it is "stupid" how bad they smell in the morning. I said it is "stupid" that he thinks disposies are better. It is just that now that he is home and I have not yet found my solution to this yet. Not sure how I am going to handle this?

AAAAHHHH Build up

So I am sure that we have a urine build up problem. The baby has been doing so well with the goodmama diaper for night time. Leaks are a thing of the past (for now (-; ) but in the morning when we have our first diaper change the amonia smell lurking from her bottom is horrible. I feel so bad for her.

So we are working to knock this out. Our first attempt was yesterday. My plan: a vinager rinse, hot wash cycle with soap, then 3 more hot cycles. Then into the dryer. When I took them out of the dryer I did the nose to diaper deep inhale test and I did not smell a thing. The real test will be tomorrow morning when we take off her overnight diapers.

I just can't believe that when I was at target today I almost bought some disposes for night but I held out.

Birth fair

The annual birth fair is coming up in October and I am trying to get a head start. I have started to order some promo items and looking at inventory for the booth. It is such a great time. I love talking to people moms and dads about cloth. Plus I get to see lots of friends I don't get to see all the time. I have decided to get involved with planning of the fair this year and I am so glad I did. What a great bunch of people! I just don't understand why I am so drawn to all things birth. :)

Potty Training

It seems as though my 16 month old is wanting to sit on the potty more and more. She sees her sisters on there and wants to do it too. I indulge her with it and she goes through a whole routine. She takes the potty seat and puts it on the toilet. She lefts her arms signaling me that she is ready to be lifted onto the potty. She sits there for about 5 seconds (has not actual gone on there yet). Gets a small amount of tp and whips her parts LOL. Lifts her arms because she is ready for me to get her down. She goes to flush, I usually just say "that's ok" since she didn't do anything anyway. Then she puts the seat back on the hook and wants to wash her hands. Yes, it is very cute. I am just not ready to give up cloth. I know she is not even doing anything on the potty. This is just the another step toward her not being my baby anymore.

New water heater

We got a new water heater today, WOOHOO. I was really hoping for a tankless but I was out voted :( That is ok though because so far this is really heating up and heating up fast. The bathroom sink use to take for ever to get hot water and I would have to wait awhile before I could wash my face. But today that sucker got hot fast!!

So ultimately all I can think of is "ooooo, my diapers sure are going to be clean" LOL

So far so good. I have to say that I didn't even use a whole capfull but all seems well. I didn't really notice a difference in the softness feel. But as I said I didn't even use a capfull. I am using it for our towels and clothes. I am thinking I will use it again for my next wash and see about using a bit more.

I have seen on alot of posts on fsot boards that moms are using Ecover on their diapers. Can there really be a fabric softener that you can use on cloth diapers. I am so curious about this. I was at Whole Foods last night and thought I would pick some up. I was quite surprised at the price but bought it anyway. I am a rather frugal (to put it nicely, otherwise cheap) person. I tried it on my girls clothes first. I love the scent!! And now I have a full load of diapers so I am going to try it today. I am a bit nervious because I have no build up right now and things are absorbing very well. But seeing is how I have a few goodmama diapers that I have been using for night time diapers, I want to keep the as soft as possible. I will report back with an update on how it goes.

Velcro covers

So I have been using fitteds and covers for my cloth diapering these days. I have found that a fitted is so absorbant and I am getting less leaks because I always would forget to change a pocket often enough. However, the covers that I really like are the Happy Heiny's one size covers. These covers are a velcro cover like the bummis but seem to be alot easier to take off than the bummis. So when my little lady wakes up from a nap her cover is on one side of the crib and the bed is wet on the other side of the crib (where she was sleeping). I really like these covers because the PUL is so soft and comfy but I can't keep having that. I don't want to use the bummis because I just don't think they are nearly as soft. Not sure what I am going to do. I don't really want to get into the whole wool thing. They are so expensive and I don't want to have to deal with washing by hand. Do you all have any suggestions?

We are all cloth

So I just got a new to me serger and decided there is not time the present to switch 100% cloth. We had run out of paper towels and had not had a chance to get to the store. I had just got the serger the day before and have never used one in my life. I can pretty much only sew a pillow case, LOL. So instead of going to the store for paper towels (I had already done the shopping for the week) I decided to go to the fabric store and get some flannel that was 50% off. I came home and cut out all my 8x8 squares during nap time. Then I went to serging. I think I am hooked. It was super easy to do. We have been using my 8x8 squares as napkins, towels in kitchen, tissues for runny noses...this is sooo great. Ofcourse we are still using paper in the bathroom, if you know what I mean. The bonus is that I don't even have to do any extra washing because they are so small I can wash with towels and they don't take up any extra space in the machine.

So I finally got the prefolds done. The dying was very easy, it was getting all the dye out of the diapers that was a long process. I have to say that I am very happy with the results. I am normally a pocket type of mom and just use the prefolds as back up. But with how cute these are I can't wait to put them on her little tushie.

The birth fair was great. We had a lot of new mommas thinking about cloth diapers and wanted to learn more. We did lots of pre-fold demos and educating of all the new modern cloth diaper available today.
